I had fun today doing a version of Thinking out Loud for the new covers site at www.mrjasonsweeney.com. Im looking to do a few of these using different techniques in the voice. In this example im pushing a compressed air and vocal fry sound to get that rasping sound. Its taken years to get that going and still working on it. The most important thing to do is warm and warm down to ensure there is no damage to the voice.

Cover set

It's been a busy few weeks. As well as teaching lots of fantastic students, who are hungry to learn, Iv been getting my acoustic covers set up and running.

I have also had my first acoustic covers gig at 1912 Bathgate which went well. It had been a good few years since I had done this type of performance due to concentrating on original music.

It is still a work in progress but have a look at the acoustic site at www.mrjasonsweeney.com. I'm looking to announce a few shows over the summer which is an excellent chance for me to showcase to my students and clients.

This week has been nothing but amazing. So much has happened in the Sonic Tempo camp and all is about to be released.

It's been a considerable planning task to get everything completed but the time ahead is looking good. The first significant event was the recording and shoots of my new cover to demonstrate vocals. I worked on this with Stuart Mclean; everyone knows Stuart in the area he is a great piano player, singer and guitarist and does lots of stuff musically in the community.

We record a piano vocal cover of Five finger death punch, Wash it all away. We are due to release this on Sunday afternoon. I'm looking forward to seeing the reaction.

I then travelled to Stockport to shoot the new King Lot video for Hearts on Fire. It was a long day but the set was marvellous, the guys we were working with were all so professional, and I can't wait to see the finished article.

After this, it is was on to a sold-out show with The King Lot in Wigan to support the band Bigfoot. The crowd lapped it up and were very welcoming to the set. It was great to see lots of regular faces that have been coming to our gigs.

Now its time to travel home for another action-packed week of recording, writing teaching and living music.

when words fail, music speaks

Today I had the privilege of working with the charity Music in Hospitals. It's a charity that takes live music to those that cant go to concerts, due to mobility or ill health.
So today I visited a hospital in Edinburgh for two performances covering songs from the 50's right up to present day.
It was a great day filled with people singing along, dancing and sharing stories with what the songs meant to them. It was tough going, 40 odd songs over the two performances, but very cool to be involved bringing music to the people in the ward.
After I had finished, I got given some feedback that stopped me in my tracks. The nurse in charge told me that it was pretty emotional to see how the music had affected the clients especial one lady in question. The nurse said to me that it was a pretty rough day due to the old ladies health and as a result, she was frustrated and was becoming violent to the staff.
The nurse informed this was right up until my arrival this was a situation that was taking up most of the nurse observation in the ward. The music and atmosphere created by everyone joining in changed the mood instantly and as a result soothed the situation to a regular pattern.
It's amazing how powerful music is; it's astounding the effect it can have on people no matter if it's a three-chord song, if its classical music, country music or heavy metal.
so in the words of Shakespear "when words fail, music speaks."

Howden Park Centre Acoustic Night Hosted by Sonic Temple Music Tuition

Last night saw a fantastic turn out for Howden Park Centre Acoustic night. Lots of people coming to see the players and also play their songs and covers they love.

We also had Cal and Sarah from West Lothian Guitar Services come down with some of their students, and they brought some stock from the shop to show the players.

A big shout out goes out to Alan from the Dreadnought for coming down with his son to play some classical guitar, Ben Inglis for playing a track from his new EP to be released in JULY.

It is magical when one of the participants plays songs that resonate with everyone, and you can see that happen almost overtime now.

The acoustic night is fantastic and its a privilege to host it.

The next meeting is Monday the 21st of September. 7 till 10 with a break half way through.

I don't know what it was about today, but it was fantastic for music. I had great students who all are eager to learn. My checklist got ticked today.

I also finished off a vocal demonstration for one of my favourite singer-songwriters.

He is one of the best out there. In this song, I was demonstrating an exaggerated Nasal quality with a slow release of air for that breathy sound.

FIRE AWAY BY CHRIS STAPLETON
Honey load up your questions
And pick up your sticks and your stones
And pretend I'm a shelter for heartaches
That don't have a home
Choose the words that cut like a razor
And all that I'll say

Is fire away
Take your best shot
Show me what you got
Honey, I'm not afraid
Rear back and take aim
And fire away

ACOUSTIC SESSION WITH S MCLEAN MUSIC

WEST LOTHIAN GUITAR SINGING BASS SONGWRITING LESSONS

Last night I met with Stuart Mclean. Stuart is an established and very talented West Lothian musician. We have worked together in the past, and as a result, the song and video we did got great reviews and a large number of views on Youtube.

It goes to show that hard work and perseverance goes a long way. So far our version of Marc Broussard's Edge of Heaven is sitting at 17k views.

Last night acoustic session was about mapping out a new song we are doing which is top secret at this stage. It was great working with the piano. The good thing about working with other musicians is that you learn so much from the sessions.

The challenges I came across last night was the dynamics in the solos sections, flourishes to enhance the song a little more. Now we have met and had our first session I plan to go and work on some Bm scales and riffs to fit into the song and present to Stuart. Watch this space.

SONIC TEMPO MUSIC TUITION RELEASE

Within 24 hours of releasing the facebook page iv achieved 251 Likes, that is amazing. I am a firm believer that if you do what you love you will be successful no matter what. I have good feelings about this venture.

The most exciting thing about it is that I'm speaking to people who are equally excited about learning more about music.

I've been able to set up Instagram, the website, facebook and twitter and they all perform firm, so I'm confident the news will spread about my services.

You would think that beer is an excellent choice to celebrate. However, I decided to do a Vocal demonstration video on the Youtube page. Beer is on chill for the weekend.

Dreadnought Rock Acoustic Show

Saturday the 7th of April saw the yearly Jolly Boys party. They have been raising money for the Scottish autism charity. I had the pleasure of performing at it. Over the last few weeks I pulled together a 30 minute acoustic show.

I was on at 8.30pm and started the show with a cover of Bryan Adams "Cuts Like A Knife". It was a great opener for the crowd that were there as I got the feeling they liked the 80's rock songs. Overall it was a successful gig for me. I put in a lot of practice for it and i feel that prepared me well to just get out and do it.

Practice makes perfect as they say.

Closing the show was the Jimi Anderson Band and I would highly recommend that everyone checks them out. They are excellent players, everyone of them and Jimi the signer is sensational
